At Saath Gramin Trust, we believe no mother should have to choose between a livelihood and her child’s care.
The Muskaan Centre is a community-based crèche movement designed to break this cycle by providing a safe, clean, and stimulating environment for children under the age of four. While mothers, often working in the informal sector, pursue their livelihood, their children receive nutritious meals, early childhood education, and regular health check-ups.
Beyond childcare, Muskaan Centre serves as a hub for community transformation. It offers a dedicated safe space for children & adolescents to learn, build life skills and confidence, while fostering grassroots leadership by employing trained local women to run the centres. The centre also provides after-school tuition support five days a week, led by three dedicated teachers, helping school-going children strengthen their learning and academic performance.
By ensuring these children are safe, nurtured, and learning, we give their mothers the support system that allows them to work, earn, and achieve financial independence.

Nisha’s Story
A Small Child, A Big Change
Nisha Satishbhai Vaghela, aged 1.5 years, has brought meaningful change to her family’s life.
Living in a small rented room in Garibnagar, Bapunagar, Nisha’s parents struggled to manage expenses through stitching work on a second-hand sewing machine bought on loan. After Nisha’s birth, balancing childcare and livelihood became extremely difficult for her mother, Farjanaben.
After learning about the Muskaan Centre through a community survey, Farjanaben enrolled Nisha at the Centre. Since then, Nisha has been receiving safe care, attention, and a nurturing environment every day.
Today, Farjanaben and her husband can work with peace of mind, knowing their daughter is safe and cared for. For the family, the Muskaan Centre has become a source of stability, confidence, and hope for a better future.
Maya’s Story
A Safe Childhood, A Mother’s Relief
Maya Manishbhai Pardhi, aged 1.2 years, belongs to a migrant family that moved from Rajasthan to Ahmedabad in search of work. Her parents, daily wage construction workers living in Garibnagar, Bapunagar, had no support to care for their two young daughters.
As a result, Maya and her sister were often taken to unsafe construction sites, exposed to dust, heat, and hazardous surroundings. For their mother, Ramilaben, their safety and health were constant concerns.
After learning about the Muskaan Centre through a community survey, Ramilaben enrolled both her daughters at the Centre. Though initially hesitant, she soon felt reassured by the care and nurturing environment provided by the staff.
Today, Ramilaben and her husband can work peacefully, knowing their daughters are safe and cared for. For Maya’s family, the Muskaan Centre has become a source of safety, dignity, and hope for a better future.
Sonakshi's Story
When Survival Became a Struggle, Hope Walked In
Sonakshi, aged 2 years, has brought new hope and stability into her mother’s life.
Living in Garibnagar, Ahmedabad, Sonakshi’s mother, Durgaben (40), endured years of hardship. After surviving domestic abuse in her first marriage and losing custody of her three children, she remarried in search of stability — only to be abandoned again while pregnant. With no family support, a newborn in her arms, and limited income, Durgaben struggled every day to survive.
Earning just ₹3,500 per month, of which most went towards rent, balancing childcare and livelihood became nearly impossible. With no one to care for Sonakshi, even continuing work felt uncertain.
After learning about the Muskaan Centre, Durgaben enrolled Sonakshi. At the Centre, she found a safe, caring environment where children learn, play, and receive nutritious meals and emotional care.
Today, Sonakshi spends her days in a nurturing space while Durgaben goes to work with confidence and peace of mind. For them, the Muskaan Centre has become a source of safety, dignity, and hope for rebuilding a brighter future.
